In the last 16 she came up against world and Olympic medalist Pavia of France, where she was held at almost full time. Losing before the quarter finals means no repecharge at this level, so despite being on excellent form Nekoda had to settle for an earlier exit than planned. It was a good day overall and Nekoda earned some more valuable Olympic qualifying points.

5th September - Bratislava European Cup, Bratislava, Slovakia

Julia was our lone ranger today, making the brave journey to Bratislava without the team. She gave a gutsy performance, losing out nto World Champion Kelmendi of Kosovo in the first round. Kelmendi pulled Julia back into the repecharge where she lost to Stangar of Germany.

Julia Scardone & Harkirat Sekhon qualified for this event back in February, after winning gold medals at the British University Championships. Maddy and Poppy each weighed in at u32kg and were placed in opposite pools. Maddy won 2 and lost 2 contests, placing her 5th at the end of the event, having beaten the eventual gold medalist along the way. Poppy, however, won all 4 contests in her pool, to head into the semi final. There she lost and had to settle for bronze. It was an excellent performance at her first national event.

our travelling fan club was in full swing all day, as can be seen here.

Luke Davies was our final competitor of the day. He has been in great form all year, with his eyes firmly on the rostrum today. He had 7 tough contests in total, but never looked in trouble, handling all situations professionally. He won every round and became National champion. It was a fitting end to his fantastic year.

In the quarter final she faced former world champion Rafaela Silva of Brazil and Nekoda won by a waza-ari throw To reach the semi-final. I the semi Kim fought a tenascious contest on her home soil, bit Nekoda stayed controlled and dominated the gripping exchanges to win on shidos. In the final she met Jandi Kim who seems to have the Midas touch at the moment. Only a borderline yuko separated them and Nekoda's silver medal and Olympic qualification points are a very welcome reward.

5th & 6th December - British Cadet & Pre-Cadet Championships, Sheffield

EJC had a tough weekend but with some notable performances. Showgo and Sofija won bronze medals in the Cadet age band, in very strong fields. Rhys placed 5th in the Pre-Cadet u50kg group, after some great ippon wins early in the day. Erik Gee and Tohgo Kimura placed 7th in their respective Cadet weight groups. Cameron and Afam missed out this weekend.

Well done to all. The national championships is never easy, but we had a professional and positive team.
